How can physical therapy help my back?
Physical therapy offers a reasonable and affordable approach for not only treating but also preventing and managing back and neck pain. Back pain effects 80% of the population and billions of dollars are spent every year diagnosing, treating and managing back pain. Studies have shown that most cases of low back pain resolve without medical intervention. However, 60-80% of patients will have recurring pain often more severe in nature within one year the first episode. For that reason educating and involving the patient in the recovery process through physical therapy is the most effective way of managing spinal disorders.
How does back and neck pain become a chronic problem?
In most cases of neck and back pain certain muscles of the spine that stabilize and support our posture are reflexively shutdown. These muscles do not spontaneously recover following an episode of neck or back pain and often remain weak. In the event of chronic pain these stabilizer muscles may remain inactive for years further contributing to the problem. Treating chronic pain at Proactive Physical Therapy is a process of training core stability to re-educate postural muscles to support and protect the spine.
What can I expect on my first visit?
Upon arrival you will check in at the front desk and complete the required paperwork. We request that you arrive approximately 15 minutes early to have all of this complete before your appointment time. This first appointment is approximately one hour. You will meet your therapist, describe your injury or situation and learn about the options that will build your personal plan of care.
What do I need to bring with me to my first visit?
You will need your prescription for physical therapy given to you by your physician. You will also need your insurance coverage information. For example your insurance card or workers comp/auto insurance information. In addition to these items if you coverage is an HMO you will need to bring your PCP referral.
What should I wear?
Something comfortable, loose and easily moveable for the therapist to be able to get to the area in pain. For example: if you are coming in for knee pain, please bring or wear shorts or baggy pants that can be pulled up over the knee.
How often will I need to attend physical therapy?
Your and your therapist will establish how often you will need to come to physical therapy at your first session. We will consider your individual needs as well as your schedule and time constraints.
INSURANCE & PAYMENT
What kind of insurances do you take?
We take most insurances including: Anthem, BCBS, Cigna, Aetna, United, Havard, Liberty Mutual, Tri-Care, Medicare and most Medicare Advantage plans. If you do not see your insurance please call us as we are adding providers daily.
Do you take credit, debit and flexible spending account card?
Yes we accept all major credit cards except American Express. We also accept flexible spending cards as a form of payment
If I have to cancel my appointment will I be charged?
We will not charge you if you need to cancel an appointment. Please give us a call as soon as you can to let us know of the cancellation.
How do I find out if I have a co pay, co-insurance or a deductible for physical therapy?
Call your insurance company. Their number is usually on the back of the insurance card. Tell them you are inquiring about out patient physical therapy and they will tell you what you will be expected to pay.
